The shooting of the project started back in 2014 as an attempt to discuss a sensitive political topic of repressions during the reinforced conservative policy of the Russian Federation. This mood brought me to the White Sea Baltic Canal which is a symbol of state’s pressure on a personality.
There I faced its construction history and Karelian nature. The impressions from seeing those things can be described in similar words. When they cross, they transfer me to an imaginary place represented in this book.

The artwork features a map from illustrations in the book Stalin’s White Sea–Baltic Canal. Stories of
Construction. 1931-1934. Edited by M. Gorkiy, L.L. Aberbaha, S. G. Firina. 1934.
